The Kama Story
Kama began in Yogyakarta in 2018, making things so that every small step we take can be of use to others.
A local wastra fashion brand from Yogyakarta
Kama was founded in Yogyakarta in 2018 and at first made womenswear only. As the zero-waste movement grew, Kama began turning leftover fabric into pouches, bags, hats, bandanas, kidswear and much more. Our aim is simple: to make modern, inventive fashion without leaving behind the character of Indonesian culture.
We want every small step of Kama's journey to be “Migunani Tumpraping Liyan” — of use to others. Indonesia has a wealth of traditional textiles, and through our pieces Kama invites everyone, from children to adults, to wear them with pride.
What our slogan means
“Bangga Berwastra, Dari Masa ke Masa”
- A message about heritage and timelessness.
- Wearing Indonesian textiles with confidence and pride every day, not only at weddings.
- Wastra no longer belongs to our parents: it is for today's children and young people, and for the generations to come.

BRILIANPRENEUR
A beautiful length of wastra is not made overnight
Behind every graceful motif is the extraordinary patience of local artisans whose skill has been handed down through generations.
Drawing batik with a canting or weaving on a hand loom (ATBM) takes weeks, sometimes months.
At every stage, Kama works with skilled homemakers to make fashion that can be worn and enjoyed to this day.
When you wear Kama, you are not only celebrating personal style — you are helping keep alive the livelihoods and cultural heritage of artisans in and around Yogyakarta.
Merajut Budaya
We believe cultural heritage lives on when it is passed directly to the next generation. Through Merajut Budaya, Kama runs interactive batik classes open to the public, institutions and communities.
